Buying a Robofil machine is one of the more significant investment decisions in a company. A wrong decision can cost a great deal — because many problems are not visible at first glance. The machine may look fine, perform well "on show", yet have hidden problems that only emerge after a few weeks of production.

⚠️ Why Is Thorough Pre-Purchase Inspection So Important?

A wire EDM machine is not just mechanics — it is a system where everything must work together: wire guidance, process stability, machining conditions and electronics. If any element is not working correctly, quality drops, errors appear and costs rise. Very often problems only emerge in production, not during a brief demonstration.

✅ 1. See the Machine Running — Not Just Standing

Absolute baseline. The machine may look good and start without problems — but the true condition only shows during cutting. Watch: whether the process is stable, whether the wire runs smoothly and whether there are any sudden changes in operation.

✅ 2. Process Stability

One of the most important indicators. If during operation fluctuations appear, the process is uneven or the machine "searches" for stability — that is a clear warning sign. A stable machine operates calmly and predictably throughout the test.

✅ 3. Wire Behaviour

The wire reveals a great deal about the machine's condition. Check: does it vibrate, does it break too often, is it guided smoothly? Wire problems very often indicate guide wear or mechanical alignment problems.

✅ 4. Cut Quality

Check the part surface, repeatability and dimensional accuracy. If quality is poor or inconsistent — either something is not working correctly, or the machine requires significant investment before production can start.

✅ 5. Water System

Frequently overlooked, very important. Check that the system is working correctly, no flow problems exist and everything is clean. Problems in the water system cause instability and poor quality — and repairs can be expensive.

✅ 6. Electronics and Control

Electronic problems can be difficult and expensive to resolve. Check system response, smoothness of operation and any error messages. Any delay or unusual behaviour should raise concern.

✅ 7. History and Component Wear

A regularly serviced machine used in stable conditions will be a much better choice than one with unknown history. Also assess the degree of wear — whether the machine requires major investment immediately after purchase.

💡 Best test: Ask for a part similar to your actual production to be machined. This gives a real answer about how the machine performs and whether it meets your technical requirements.

❌ Most Common Buyer Mistake

Focusing only on price. This leads to a situation where the machine is cheap but requires large additional investment — or does not meet production expectations. Before buying, check: operation under load, process stability, wire behaviour, cut quality, technical condition and usage history. This prevents costly mistakes whose correction takes months.
