Buying a used Robofil often starts with one impression: "looks good, works, everything seems OK". The problem is that many faults in wire EDM machines are not visible immediately. Furthermore, some can be temporarily "calmed" so the machine appears healthy during the viewing. This is not always deliberate deception — sometimes it is simply preparing the machine for sale. But the effect is the same for the buyer: real problems only emerge in production.

🤔 Why Are Problems Hard to Notice?

A Robofil machine is a dynamic system — it works correctly in some conditions and may have problems in others. During a short demonstration: the process is set "safely", the machine runs quietly and everything looks good. But this is not the full picture of the machine's real capabilities.

🔴 Most Common Ways Problems Are Hidden

1. Lowering Operating Parameters

The machine is set to run slower and more stably. Result: looks good during the test — but in real production it is very slow or unstable at normal settings.

2. Demo on a Very Simple Part

The presentation uses simple shapes, thin materials and easy conditions. The process is stable and the machine is not stressed — problems do not show. This does not show the machine's real capabilities.

3. Short Test Duration

The machine works correctly for a few minutes — but that does not mean it will work stably for several hours. Problems often appear with longer operation, changing conditions or more demanding parts.

4. Hiding Component Wear

Wear is not always visually obvious. It may affect wire guidance, working elements and systems responsible for stability. Symptoms appear during operation: vibration, instability, quality deterioration.

5. "Calming" the Machine Instead of Fixing It

Instead of solving the problem, settings are changed and machine capability is restricted, masking the symptoms. Works short-term — but does not address the cause.

🔍 What to Watch for During Inspection?

  • Process stability — the machine should run evenly, without sudden changes or "jerking"
  • Wire behaviour — no vibration, no instability, no breaks
  • Surface quality — check that it is uniform and repeatable
  • Response to settings changes — ask to increase parameters; if problems appear it means the machine is working at its limit
  • Longer test — a few minutes is not enough; observe the machine over a longer period

💡 The Most Important Rule

The machine should perform well not just "on show", but in real working conditions. Trusting the first impression — clean machine, started up, runs for a moment — is the most common buyer mistake. Critical: thorough testing in conditions close to your real production.
